Winter leading into the 2016 growing season brought much needed rain after years of drought. The rain along with cool weather provided ideal conditions for the vines during dormancy. The final significant rain storm came through in early March and a couple weeks later we saw budbreak marking the start of the growing season. Spring lead into a warm summer without any significant heat spikes. With proximity to the Pacific Ocean, temperatures remained in the 60s and 70s allowing for a long slow maturation, developing tannins while maintaining great acidity and depth to the wine. Harvest was slow, spanning over a month, as cooler conditions slowed the maturation process.
